Trademark law is where those two lives meet: it is the practice that lets me work for myself and spend my days making sure other people can keep doing the same.
The Why
Most of the founders I work with built something before anyone told them it was allowed. A consulting practice, a product line, a following. The name came from them, and it is usually the last thing they think to protect.
Owning your name is not a formality. It protects your business, your livelihood, and the years you have already spent building recognition. I would rather do that work now, at a flat fee, than watch someone rebuild a brand under a name they never wanted.
